Canberra is located in the Australian Capital Territory at 35.2828 S, 149.1314 E.Canberra has a population of 334225 people. The census population are based on either 'usual residence' or 'as enumerated'. Identity of Canberra
In 1901 the desicion to make Canberra Australia's capital was passed. The identity of Canberra is based upon its political heritage. Being Australia's capital it holds many of Australias political leaders. The Parliment house and the War memorial hall holds great pride in the nations capital.

How it gots it's name
In 1913 the name was given by Joshua Moore as a meaning of "meeting place" as the capital of Australia.

Canberra's Pride
The pride of canberra is based around its war memorial during ANZAC day. The nation agree's and all remember the anzacs and what they did and the memorial conveys this pride with diary entries and museums. The War memorial also has several plaques that show the soldiers that fought in the war.

History of Canberra
European exploration began in the Canberra area as early as the 1820's. White settlement in the area can be said to have begun in 1824.In 1911 an international competition for a city plan was launched. first prize was awarded to american landscape architect Walter Burley Griffin form Chicargong . His aim was to obtain unity by applying natural advantages of the land form.
In 1913 Canberra was formally named at the laying of the foundation stone on capital hill Griffin arrived in October as federal director of design and construction.
World War 1, changes of government and lack of money slowed progress of the city but several major works undertaken. In 1914 the railway was extended from Queanbeyan to the south-east corner of Canberra, a power station was built at Kingston, brick-works were opened at Yarralumla and in 1915Cotter Dam was completed.

Land marks
The cityscape of Canberra is home to some of Australia's most important landmarks such as Albert Hall, Duntroon house, Government House and the High Court of Australia.
The Old parliment House is of particular note and was home to the Australian Federal Parliament from 1927, until it was replaced by the New Parliament house on Capital Hill in 1988. Captain Cook Memorial Water Jet, which towers over Lake Burley Griffin is also another important landmark . This iconic jet is powered by four giant pumps and was offically inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to Australia in 1970.
